Movie Journey Day 12

I used Michael Douglas to get from The American President to Don't Say a Word. Brittney Murphywas my bridge to Just Married. I had planned to say that these twomovies show the two sides of Brittney Murphy but the truth is Just Marriedis a fairly awful movie. I used it just as a means to continue my journey. That does not take away from her amazing performance in Don't Say a Word. She was absolutely riveting. For a look at Brittney Murphy's comic side I wouldrecommend seeing Little Black Book, a much better movie.

Movie Journey Day 11

George C. Scott moved from a hospital administrator in The Hospital to a mercenary assassin in Firestarter. Do I have to say that Stephen King's book is much better than this movie? I'm sure the director was hoping that final sequence would stand up against the similar sequence in Carrie. Sorry, not even close. Next Martin Sheen moved with me to The American President. I absolutely adore this movie. If only Andrew Shepherd could really run for President.

Movie Journey Day 10

Morgan Freeman got me from Chain Reaction to Teachers and at this point instead of using an actor I used the director of Teachers, Arthur Hiller to link me to The Hospital. Teachers and The Hospital have simular themes: Teachers is the story of a dysfuctional High School and The Hospital is the story of a dysfuntional Hospital.

Movie Journey Day 9

This brings me up to January 18 on which Naomi Watt linked me to The Ring. I believe that this was the first of the horror movies in the last few years that was rated PG13. I think the reason for the rating had some thing to do with the fallout over the Justine Timberlake/Janet Jackson incident. Because it was successful, Hollywood green lit a string of watered down horror flicks, much to chagrin of true gore hounds. I moved onto Chain Reaction with Brian Cox. OK, so this is not great movie but it hit the target it was aiming at and that's good enough for me. Some people have said that casting Keanu Reeves as a nuclear physicist stretches all credibility. What I noticed is he actually plays a machinist who works with nuclear physicists. So there.

Movie Journey Day 8

This going to be a short entry because I have very little to say about either movie. Stephen Fry took me from Peter's Friends to Wilde. He (Fry) has a very dry wit and is perfectly cast as Oscar Wilde. Unfortunately I watched this late at night and fell asleep in the middle, but I remember that I really liked it when I saw it before. Jude Law was my link to I [Heart] Huckabees. This movie tries just a little bit to hard to be profound and cute and succeeds at neither.

Movie Journey Day 7

The next day Danny Devito took me to Junior, the movie where Arnold Schwarzenegger becomes the first pregnant man. I love Arnold so I've seen almost all his movies. Emma Thompson linked me to Peter's Friends, which has been desribed as an English Big Chill. It is maybe not as good as that movie, but enjoyable none the less.
